Some projects begin with a sketch. This one began with a loud bang.
During an exceptionally hot summer afternoon, the glass roof panel above my study decided it had had enough. In a matter of seconds, part of the sky relocated itself indoors, depositing roughly twenty litres of tiny cubes of safety glass across the room and frightening the life out of me in the process.
Rather than simply sweeping it all away, I kept a handful of the fragments and preserved them in resin. The deep red tint hints at the shock of the moment, while the pale blue glass catches the light much as it did scattered across the floor.
Part sculpture, part memento, and part evidence exhibit, The Day the Sky Came In is a small record of an ordinary day that became unexpectedly memorable.
Sometimes the strangest materials arrive without warning.
